STAR WARS - QUEEN AMIDALA
I chose an original piece of concept art by Iain McCaig for the film 'Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones' and used my research, design, cut and constructions skills to produce this costume. The design was not used in the film which meant I started from scratch, using my initiative to invent a sleeve understructure to support the large draped sleeves. Within this costume I was able to use a variety of skills and techniques including patternmagic to create the bodice pattern and free machine embroidery on the front panel to embroider the official symbol of Naboo; Amidala's home planet. I also created the obi belt using wave tucks, and hand pleated the entire bottom skirt layer. I received a 1st for this project.

An innovative under structure to support the sleeves, using alternate channels of boning and elastic to create the desired shape, inspired by historical undergarment structures.
